HAPPY THANKSGIVING

On this day of gratitude and humility we would like to take this opportunity to thank all our friends and loved ones who have supported us over the years. Staff from Salt Cay Divers and Coral Reef Bar and Grill  wish you the following:
May all the good things of life be yours not only today but throughout your life.
It has been a while since I have written on the blog. So many places to write these days, FB Twitter, emails and so on. But wanted everyone to know:
Humpback whales have been spotted off the north point in Salt Cay. Richard heard what sounded like one whale singing three days ago!
So let the games and the adventures begin. Most likely the sightings were of the early scouts sent down to lead the rest of the whales to Salt Cay through the Columbus passage.
We expect to have a spectacular season and hope you will join us in Salt Cay for whale watching, snorkeling, diving, eco- tours, trips to near-by uninhabited Cays or just relaxing on our pristine beaches where most likely the only thing you will see is your own footprints.
Hope to see you real soon. Debbie

Thanks Neal! Just two of the many encounters

Whale watching at its finest. Thanks to John for this picture decorating our sea wall. Hopefully there will be more paintings to come in an effort to beautify our Salt Cay sea wall.
The season of Humpback whales have been amazing. We have had more in-water encounters than all previous years. Lee Munson is presenting an end of the season seminar in Provo on March 30th. His presentation will focus on his findings regarding the behaviors of Humpback whales when snorkelers are in the water with them. This is the second of the projected three year study and hopefully the team will be back next year. Still a few more weeks left in the season should you want to come and experience Salt  Cay.  Watch for more Whale video on Salt Cay Divers face book page. Debbie

INCREDIBLE WHALE ENCOUNTERS
Salt Cay Divers and our research team of Lee and Benn have been so busy this season we have not been able to post. The seas have been wild for two days, but we anticipated the weather and moved one of our boats around to the east side of the island. We have been able to get out the last several days onto flat, calm seas on the east side. The interactions yesterday was one of the highlights of the year. Terry and Neil, two of our guests  will be posting video and stills of a mother and a calf they were in the water with for 30 min. You can actually see the milk coming out as the baby is nursing!
The researchers and participants have been trying to determine if being in the water with Humpbacks effects their behavior. I will be sure to post some of their findings once the season is over.
Just as a reminder, with animals in their natural environment, there are no guarantees of seeing or being in the water with Humpbacks. Our expert team will do everything possible to insure you the best encounters, but if you are coming only for the whales, and we get bad weather, "father nature" might not allow whale watching or diving. So I encourage trip insurance if you want to be 100% sure of getting your full value for your money.
Still plenty of time to do some last minute bookings. Look for the videos and photos in the next view days. Debbie

HAPPY NEW YEAR from the entire staff of Salt Cay Divers and Coral Reef Bar and Grill.
Thanks to our very own local Salt Cay Vibes band, we had live music! The music was excellent and all of our divers gave our new dance floor a good breaking in.
Happy 2013 and hope you will visit Salt Cay and celebrate with us above and below the ocean.

New Is A Good thing!

Sandy decided to pay Salt Cay a visit with higher seas than our senior citizens had ever remembered. Ms Nettie and Ms Pat were down looking at the waves and telling wonderful stories about 'back in the days".
The seas were as high as 18 ft rolling in. The crashing seas took out about 4-5 ft of sand underneath the front section of Coral Reef Bar and Grill, located right next door to the dive shop. The cafe is still totally functional and we had Conch Festival for dinner with our guests last night.
Salt Cay Divers shop was not effected at all!
This gives us the opportunity to remodel the front section of the cafe and continue with building our new and improved dance floor next to the cafe.
A  huge thanks to the wonderful people, Shine, Bernard, Willy, Enye, Mike, Greg and Nancy,John, Uncle Lionel and Stagger Lee, who secured the cafe so no further damage was done.
The seas are calming down and all is good.
Our boats rode the storm out really well. Craig is a wonderful addition to our team. He was able to secure the boats and make sure the engines were all running good.
He took a surf board out to the Big boat with a battery charger to charge the batteries. Now that was quite the sight. I was freaking out that the battery charger was going to be dumped into the sea due to  the crashing waves. But they were masterful and got the job accomplished.
Our little community really pulls together and the guests helped in any way they could.
Diving will most likely resume tomorrow. With the seas calming down the visibility will be back to it's excellent sightings in the next couple days.
Happy Halloween and hoping all those effected by Sandy along the east coast stay safe. Hope to see you in Salt Cay real soon. Debbie
